During the pandemic, many of us found ourselves with more free time than we knew what to do with. I was no exception. As someone who was used to being active and social, I was struggling to find a way to stay engaged and healthy while staying safe at home.
One day, as I was scrolling through social media, I stumbled upon a video of people playing pickleball. I had never heard of the sport before, but something about the fast-paced action and friendly atmosphere caught my attention. I decided to do some research and learn more about this intriguing game.
After watching a few more videos and reading up on the rules and equipment, I decided to take the plunge and order a pickleball set online. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was excited to try something new and potentially discover a new passion.
When my pickleball set arrived, I immediately set it up in my backyard and started practicing my shots. At first, I struggled to get the hang of it - the ball seemed to bounce in unexpected ways, and I had trouble controlling my shots. But as I kept practicing, I started to get the hang of it. I enjoyed the challenge of trying to outmaneuver my imaginary opponents and improve my skills.
Eventually, I decided to take my newfound love of pickleball to the next level and join a local league. I was nervous at first - after all, I had never played competitively before - but I quickly discovered that the pickleball community was welcoming and supportive. I met people of all ages and skill levels who shared my love of the sport, and I started to look forward to our weekly games.
Playing pickleball during the pandemic ended up being a lifesaver for me. It gave me a way to stay active, socialize safely, and challenge myself in a new way. Even as the world slowly starts to return to normal, I know that I will continue to play pickleball and cherish the sense of community and fun that it brings to my life.
